Just as flowers are used to decorate a room, some common flowers can also be used to decorate foods. Flowers are not only used for their color, but for texture and flavor too. The leaves and roots of some flowering plants can also be eaten. Edible flowers can be used in drinks, jellies, salads, soups, syrups and main dishes. Flowers can be preserved for future use.

Some general rules to follow before consuming flowers:

• If you have food or pollen allergies, check with your doctor before consuming flowers to avoid allergic reactions.
• Do not use damaged or excessively dirty flowers. Wash flowers thoroughly but gently in cool water and dry them on paper towels.
• Just because flowers are edible doesn’t mean you should eat them at every meal. Marigolds and Daylilies for example, should be sensibly consumed.
• Remove the reproductive organs (pollen area) of the flowers if possible.
• Always use flowers that have not been sprayed with pesticides.
• If you are unsure if you have picked the correct variety of flower for the recipe, do not eat it. Some flowers are toxic and some flowers only become edible after appropriate preparations.

ایک انڈا پھینٹ کر برش کی مدد سے پھول یا اس کی پتی پر لگائیں اور پھر جلدی سے باریک چینی کے پوڈر میں رکھ کر اس کے چارو طرف لگا دیں اسے کم از کم 10 گھنٹہ کے لۓ سوکھنے دیں، قندی (candy) تیار ہے۔

سوسن یک روزہ        Lily buds Daylily Golden needles , Tiger lily buds , Lily flowers یہ خاندان Hemerocallidaceae  کی نوع  Hemerocallis   سے ہے۔اس کی کچھ انواع سوپ میں استعمال ہوتی ہیں۔ یاد رہے  یہ للی نیہں ہے للی مضر صحت ہے۔

- گاؤ زبان ، لسان الثور       Borage Borago officinalis Starflower یہ خاندان Boraginaceae  کی نوع  Borago سے ہے۔ اس کے پھول پانچ پتی کے ساتھ نیلے یا گلابی ہوتے ہیں۔

گل داؤدی      Chrysanthemums Chrysanthemum aphrodite , Chrysanthemum arcticum , Chrysanthemum argyrophyllum , Chrysanthemum arisanense , Chrysanthemum boreale , Chrysanthemum chalchingolicum یہ خاندان Asteraceae  کی نوع   Chrysanthemum سے ہے۔ اس کی تیس کے قریب اقسام ہیں۔

گلاب کے پھول کی پتیاں     Rose petals (Rosa petals with white heel removed, rose hips)

گلنار       Carnation Dianthus caryophyllus یہ خاندان Caryophyllaceae  کی نوع  Dianthus سے ہے۔پھولوں میں گلابی رنگ کی جھلک پڑتی ہے لیکن اب دوسرے رنگ سرخ، سفید، پیلا اور سبز  بھی ملتے ہیں۔

لیموں کی کلی ، ترنج کی کلی       Lemon blossoms

مرموک        Clary Salvia sclarea L Clary sage یہ خاندان Lamiaceae  کی نوع  Salvia سے ہے۔ اس  کی تیز خوشبو ہوتی ہے کئی لوگ اس کی چاۓ پیتے ہیں۔
