The tomatillo is a small, spherical and green or green-purple fruit surrounded by a paper-like husk formed from the calyx. As the fruit matures, it fills the husk and can split it open by harvest. The husk is brown and the fruit yellowish when it is ripe. Other parts of the tomatillo plant also contain toxins, and should not be eaten. It belongs to Solanaceae family and genus Physalis. The Tomatillo is a native of Mexico. They have an agreeable, but not sweet flavor.  Tomatillos are crushed and used in sauces.

یہ خاندان Solanaceae  کی نوع Physalis سے تعلق رکھتی ہے۔یہ سبز ٹماٹر جیسے مگر باریک سے چھلکے میں ہوتے ہیں- یہ کچے بھی اچھے لگتے ہیں، اس کا ذائقہ تَلخ مگر اچھا لگتا ہے۔ ان کی جگہ سبز ٹماٹر تھوڑے لیموں کے رس کے ساتھ استعمال ہو سکتے ہیں۔
