In the culinary sense, a vegetable is any savoury or less sweet plant product. All parts of an herbaceous plant that humans eat whole or in part is generally considered a vegetable, except for culinary fruits and arguably grains, nuts, herbs, and spices. Also, mushrooms are commonly considered vegetables, despite belonging to a different biological kingdom, namely fungi.

عام پتوں کا رنگ یا شکل رکھنے والی نبات، عُشبہ، عقار،  ترکاری،  بقولات،  بناسپتی،  جس کے پھل، شاخیں یا تنے، پتیاں ، جڑیں یا دوسرے حصّے کھانے کے کام آتے ہیں اسے سبزی کہتے ہیں۔
